Stop, Yield, Go
Three little verbs…action words…and yet some of the most difficult concepts to act upon.
Deadlines. Schedules. Appointments. Quotas. Projects. We are very busy people. Most days, our lives resemble disturbed anthills! Everyone, it seems, wants us to do something…and wants it done YESTERDAY! Rush…hurry…get “plugged in” and never go without Wifi! Organize so you can do more! Mealtimes, breaks, bus rides are seen as times to return phone calls, check schedules and get extra work done.
But God says, “Be still and know that I am God.” Be still—this is incredibly difficult! But God calls us to stop, acknowledge His Lordship in our lives and listen for His voice. He wants to spend time with us and He Wants Us To Listen. Like little Samuel in the Old Testament, we need to be still, wait for the Lord to speak and respond: “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.” (Stop = Listen = Blessing!)
Once we hear the Lord and know what He wants us to do, we are to yield. This word is a verb and involves choosing to obey. This may involve us yielding as we assist in an outreach ministry, praying daily for 2 missionary families, or writing an email to a missionary. God may ask us to yield part of our finances as we participate in Faith Promise and trust Him on a whole new level to supply our needs. The Lord may guide us to yield one of our evenings this week so we can hear our missionaries share what exciting things they have seen God do this year. (Yield = Obey = Blessing!)
Once we listen and know what God is saying to us, and we choose to obey, then…and only then are we to Go! This connotes jumping-in-getting-involved-hands-on involvement in something that God is doing. This is God’s personal invitation to participate in some aspect of His Kingdom-building. Go is action. “Go” can be seen in so many aspects of Mission: pledging to pray, giving financial support for world outreach, helping with a local ministry, going on a short-term mission experience, helping a ministry group with accounting and computer needs, coaching an English-learner, helping with a construction team as they build classrooms at a missionary school, landscaping and planting trees at a local school, organizing supplies for a needy elementary school, attending a Pathways seminar to find out more of what God is doing around the world. This is just a tiny sample of the ways members of Trinity answered God’s call last year. But God is very creative…He has unlimited opportunities for each of us. Find out what in the world God is doing…c’mon, we dare ya! (Go = Involvement = Blessing!)
The message for Missions Festival 2012 is very simple: STOP + YIELD + GO = BLESSING!
