Spring Break Missions
Pastor Jake Malone
Mesa, Mexico, LA and Beyond (I mean Bonete!)
What comes to mind when you think of teenagers, college students and Spring Break? Well, normally it would be things we couldn’t put in a church newsletter. However, when Trinity students think spring break they think MISSIONS!
This was our second year into a new Missions program for Student Ministries that emphasizes the “Here, There and Everywhere” nature of our call. In Acts 1:8 Jesus says we’ll be his witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and the ends of the earth." We thought that sounded pretty important, so we re-designed our program with the purpose of training students in missions in those areas. The vision is simple. Every year over Spring Break we pursue projects that build experience and a heart in DIFFERENT kinds of missions: local, cross-cultural and intensely spiritual. Every 3 years we will pursue a project that is in the “ends of the earth” category.
This year we are in full swing to fulfill that vision! Our motto for Spring Break was 3 Trips:1 Mission. We had 40 people on 3 trips with 1 Mission! 7th- 8th grade students right here in Mesa, 9th-11th grade with Amor ministries in Mexico and 12th grade – College in L.A. at the Dream Center.
Check out a video from the trips at the top of this page. For those of you who partnered with us in prayer and financially, we say THANK YOU! Your generosity is bearing fruit not only in Mesa, Mexico and L.A. but in the hearts of the students here at Trinity.
The Spring Break project was a huge success and it helped us to springboard into our “EVERYWHERE” trip this summer to Nicaragua. That’s right, the last 2 weeks in July our college ministry (Element) is headed to Bonete, Nicaragua to work with Missions Door workers on the ground there. We will be building an agricultural training center as well as doing children’s ministry with local churches. The team of 18 young adults has been training for this project since last fall and now they are in full swing.
We call this project MISSION: Bonete. As part of their training, each member of the Mission Bonete team was required to take a leadership role on our Spring Break trips. They really drove the success of these trips in every area from leading devotions to organizing worship to supervising work projects and leading small group discussions. Now they are focused on the details of the work in Nicaragua, learning about the culture and practicing their Spanish! You’ll be hearing more about this trip in the coming months so please be praying for the team and the mission. God Bless!
